This Confederate copy of the Federal Schenkl pattern has twelve distinct raised
ribs on the tapered cone portion of the projectile body. The wooden sabot used by the
Confederates in place of papier-mâché' is missing. The pictured specimen was recovered from
the same site as the projectile here. Note that this variety was manufactured
without a pin and tin plate sabot attachment system that aided in securing the wooden
sabot in place.
