The lead sabot still has the impression of the linen fabric that was
used to keep the lead from fouling the bore of the rifled cannon. This example has a
dimple and the patent date on the base cup. This projectile was
intended to be fired from a rifled 6-pounder smoothbore cannon of
3.67-inch caliber.
