This unfired specimen
has one flame groove cut out of the high copper sabot. It contains case shot
that was
loaded through the fuze opening. Note the packing tow in the fuze plug. The
packing tow protected the powder charge from foreign matter and was removed prior to the
insertion of a paper time fuze.
