The Parrott works
The West Point Foundry, on the Hudson at Cold Spring, New York, was one of the country's principal private ordnance works. Administered by civilians, it took Robert P. Parrott as superintendent in 1836, a post he held until 1867.
Under Parrott the foundry became the home of the Parrott rifle and the Parrott projectile, turning out banded cast-iron rifles from field calibers to heavy seacoast guns in large numbers for Federal service.
