The artillery arm
The Continental Artillery was raised as the artillery branch of the Continental Army, organized over the course of the Revolution into several regiments of artillery. Henry Knox, who had brought the Ticonderoga guns to Boston, commanded it for most of the war and did much to organize and train it.
Its gunners served the army's field and siege pieces through the major campaigns and formed the professional nucleus from which the artillery of the new republic would grow.
