A Southern Bormann
Lacking the Federal fuze industry, Confederate ordnance produced its own graduated metal time fuzes on the pattern of the Bormann, the flat fuze with a horseshoe-shaped powder train exposed at a chosen graduation. The Southern examples were made in copper.
Like the Federal Bormann, the Confederate copper time fuze was used principally with spherical case and shell, and recovered examples are distinguished from Northern fuzes by their material and manufacture.
